At the level of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina, three police agencies have been established: the Border Police of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Directorate for Coordination of Police Bodies of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA).

At the level of the entities of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, there is the Federal Police Administration, while the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republika Srpska is in charge of preventing criminal offences and maintaining public order in the entity of Republika Srpska.

These tasks in the Brcko District of Bosnia and Herzegovina are performed by the Brcko District Police of Bosnia and Herzegovina, while at the cantonal level, within the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, there are ten cantonal ministries of interior.
